What do you feel grateful for today?

Shazzy Om:

When we are in a state of gratitude, our brain releases a chemical called dopamine. This makes us feel good. If you find yourself comparing your face, body, hair, to beauty standards set by social media or magazines, when you find yourself complaining about what you don’t have, the easiest way to turn your mood around is to say thank you for the blessings you do have.

We all have so many things that make our lives beautiful.

Gratitude helps to stress and improve our health. It is important to say thank you to God because by doing so you reminding yourself of how lucky you are. The Dalai Lama says, “Gratitude and compassion are keys to happiness.”
Remember, happiness is a practice. We must train our minds to be in a state of gratitude. Here are four ways you can nurture the attitude of gratitude.

Gratitude journal

Take pen and paper, write down ten things you grateful for. After one week you will discover that the list goes beyond ten on a daily basis. Maintaining a journal is a great habit. It helps you reflect on the blessings in your life.

List of blessings

You can make a list and keep it in your purse or wallet. You can carry it with you wherever you go. You can look at it anytime you want. The list is endless. Go ahead and just create one.

Gratitude rituals

It’s easier to be grateful if you pair up your thanksgiving with other activities till it becomes a habit. Say 5 things you are grateful for before every meal, before you sleep, everytime you get in a car, etc.

Anchoring gratitude

Select 10 images that express memories or relationships you are grateful for and then anchor each photo on a finger. Whenever you feel stressed or tough each finger try to remember those images. As time passes you won’t need to remember images. You will release endorphins and feel happy just by touching your fingertips.
